EliteSingles was owned by Spark Networks, the group behind Zoosk, Christian Mingle, JDate and SilverSingles. In January 2026 Spark Networks entered insolvency proceedings in Berlin and a provisional administrator was appointed. On 28 April, members received an email telling them the service would close on 30 April.
At closure, accounts, profiles, matches and message history were deleted. There was no migration to a sister platform and no export tool. Two days is not enough notice to save contact details you had spent months building, and for a lot of people that is the part that stung rather than the subscription money.
This was not a sudden collapse so much as the end of a long decline. Spark Networks had already been through Chapter 15 bankruptcy proceedings in 2023 and a rescue financing round in 2024 before the January 2026 insolvency filing.
Unused subscription time is a claim in the parent company's insolvency proceedings, not a customer-service matter. If you paid by card, check your issuer's chargeback window, because that route is often faster than waiting on an insolvent estate. Do not expect a refund through the usual channels.
EliteSingles ran a personality-test model aimed at graduate professionals looking for serious relationships. Two things made it distinctive: the structured compatibility questionnaire, and a pool that skewed older and more education-focused than general-purpose apps. Which replacement suits you depends on which of those two you actually valued.
Closest equivalent
The same structural idea, a long compatibility questionnaire feeding curated matches, aimed at people who want a serious relationship rather than a browsing experience. It is more expensive than EliteSingles was, and the questionnaire is longer. Everything else about the shape of it will feel familiar.
Bigger pool, lower price
If what you valued about EliteSingles was a serious-minded pool rather than the personality test specifically, Match gives you far more people and full control over searching. It is the only platform here you can trial for a single month.
Cheapest, but same parent
Zoosk is the budget option and its behavioural matching adapts fast. Worth knowing before you sign up: it sits under Spark Networks, the same group that closed EliteSingles.
If the compatibility questionnaire is what you want back, go to eHarmony. It is the same model, run properly, by a company not currently in insolvency. If you mainly want a serious-minded pool and would rather not pay eHarmony money, go to Match and take the one-month plan first. Either way, we would think hard before prepaying a long term to anything else in the Spark Networks portfolio.
The EliteSingles closure changed how we weight this category. Company stability used to be a footnote. It is now a ranking criterion, because a twelve-month prepaid subscription is a bet that the platform still exists in twelve months, and this year that bet stopped being safe. They are part of the same Spark Networks portfolio and were still operating as of this update, but their long-term position is tied to the same insolvency proceedings. Treat any long prepaid term across that group with caution.
